Various families consisting of the story characters can now be played. Upon unlocking a story reward, the protagonist will find one copy in their inventory.Īfter finishing the story, free play mode is unlocked in the neighborhood. However in Castaway Stories, some story rewards are hidden and have to be found during and after the story to be unlocked. Story rewards will unlock during progression in the story. Players cannot build or place objects outside the limits of the lot. They have to be purchased with simoleons (or resources in Castaway Stories). Some expansion packs add extra build mode features such as terrain design. Story rewards are unique items that can be unlocked and then become purchasable from the story rewards bin, much like career rewards. Goals don't have to be completed immediately and don't require the protagonist to remain on one lot at all time, meaning that if their needs become low enough, the player can safely lead the protagonist to their home lot and refill their needs and then return to continue the story. If there is no goal displayed, it usually means that the player has to wait for one to appear. Goals in order to progress in the story will appear above the player's wants. It is a goal based guided gameplay mode in which various objectives must be accomplished to progress further, as well as reach new areas and unlock various unique story reward items.
